Verbete sobre violência escolar (School violence)
This entry briefly reviews what school violence is according on the recent scientific production on the subject. It describes the phenomenon as multi-causal and argues that this complexity echoes on four explanatory categories: individual or family characteristics, pedagogical dimension, neighborhood`s socioeconomic factor and the macro-structural dimension. The entry also reflects on the different expressions of school violence that are based on the severity of the event (verbal offense, physical assault, etc.), the profile of those involved (students, teachers, personnel, etc.) and on the presence of the act in legal codes (crime or incivilities).
